I interviewed a guy today and he mentioned an article, that I had also read. It talked about how, to increase both your job security and marketability, you should look to place yourself in a position that is critical path for the project you're on. That's an interesting, if not obvious, proposition. On one hand, you get more responsibility, more input, more respect and, naturally, more job security and marketability. You also get more accountability and more work time on the weekends. It's also interesting to see how people's priorities change over time, too.
