planet hollywood buys buca [bizJournals]
and with that, everything that was once cool about buca is officially dead and buried. remember when the one down on harmon was the place you wanted to take your family when they came to visit you at college? because it was so crazy and boisterous and the huge portions and all the garlic and the wine and the genuine novelty and fun? i do. yeah, that whole vibe died a while ago, but this was totally the final nail, right? right.

Dude, you've nailed it. This can't be good.
Moe thought:
No kidding did you nail it. I always laughed at people that went to any other Buca but the one downtown, and this confirms that even that one isn't worth going to.
Does anyone know the history of Buca? When and where was it just a one location eatery?
I'm thinking a stop at Al Vento or Broders might be in order to support the good Italian places in Mpls.

My memory is that the Harmon one was the first, and I think that's what this wikipedia entry is saying, too.
It also says there was just the one in '93, 5 by '96. I think the one down by the airport was the second, maybe? I know the Eden Prairidise one opened earlier than you'd think, too. (How weird of location was that, btw? Super weird. It still kind of is, actually.)
Maybe the Harmon one is still ok? I haven't been in years. I wish we had more - even just one more - kick ass red sauce italian joints in this town. please? kgratzi.
