new york city - fall 2003 - day 7

It was a colder day today. We got up early so we could get down to Rockefeller Center and watch some of the Today show being taped. It worked out well as we got to see Al Roker dancing around and doing the weather. (Turns out Al Roker has a blog. Good for you, Al, but glory, that airplane is annoying.)

Anyway, the point of us getting down there early was to try and get some tickets to see the Caroline Rhea Show being taped. We had heard that they tape in the morning and decided to give up trying to get into see Conan and go see her show instead. Caroline is a total hoot and the show was a lot more fun that I thought it would be. Who knew?

After the show, we headed over to check out Letterman's joint. We also swung into the Hello Deli to see how Rupert G was doing. I had some meatball and spinach soup. It was quite good. Pat Farmer was in the deli setting up cameras and stuff because that night one of the Survivor losers was going to be on the show. We also saw Biff Henderson on the street and we got to see Paul Schaffer arrive in a limo. (He's even balder in person.) All this happens in the span of like 10 minutes. I was on overload. I couldn't speak and I was all goofy for the rest of the day.

We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the glitzy upper east side. It's full of all these outrageous boutiques with $1000 shoes and stuff. There are like three Coach stores, three Gucci stores, a Versace, a Prada or two... the list goes on. We went in the original Tiffany's and looked around. (We both decided we like the look of JB Hudson's in Minneapolis better.) There were also a lot of very well dressed old ladies out walking around. Some even had fancy little dogs. It was almost like a cartoon.

Tonight we saw the big Rent show. Joey Fatone - yes, that Joey Fatone - is one of the male leads. He's famous and all, but I didn't think he was strongest member of the cast by far. After seeing two shows, I've concluded that there's a lot of talent on Broadway. Huh. Anyway, it was quite the production and we both really enjoyed it.

Highlights

  • For dinner, we went back down to the village to see Dennis and have some moules frites at the Belgian joint where we had fries earlier in the week. It was yummy.
